Within the framework of Nonviolent Peacebuilding with Peacekeeping& Mediation as a focus – unarmed and non-partisan efforts to end violence and armed hostilities, support the peacetalks and facilitate the reconciliation and reconstruction processes; and a commitment to uphold the integrity of creation
Preoccupation
Non-partisan work – Members are committed to uphold, protect and defend life, respectfully engage conflicting parties, facilitate mediation, help find honorable solutions to conflict before they escalate; come to the aid, provide encouragement and presence to threatened individuals and communities; to facilitate a creation of buffers, spaces and peace zones; and provide protective presence and accompaniment to individuals and their immediate relatives threatened by, but not limited to extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances and other human rights violations.
Nonviolent Peacekeeping Actions
• 1) Observing/Monitoring – similar to the work of journalist, international observers, and ceasefire monitoring units the main function is to document and report breach of agreements or violations, in drawing local and international attention for pro-active and constructive response.
• 2) Intercessionary Work
- Interposition - usually the physical intervention of unarmed peacekeepers to be in between (get in the way) the two armed groups who are or about to engage in armed combat in an effort to create a buffer, allow more time or space for dialogue or talks, or deterrence to an actual shooting war.
- Accompaniment - It is providing unarmed escort service to negotiators, & peace panelist, tasks to engage in dialogue or peace talks in hostile territory. It is also immersion work in threatened communities.
- Presence – Deescalating very tense situations through prayerful and peaceful actions to encourage the return of calm and normalcy in a community. In a situation where mutual religious or tribal hatred and mistrust heats up, peacekeepers openly initiate and engage in friendly conversation with perceived antagonists. For instance, Moslems, Christians and other faith expressions hold vigils around places of worship to symbolize respect, tolerance, and appreciation among beliefs.
• 3) Mediation – facilitating efforts for conflicting parties to engage each other in constructive and peaceful processes drawing common interest from contrasting positions.

To reconcile conflicting parties, we must have the ability to understand the suffering of both sides. But how many of us are able to do that? (Thich Nhat Hanh)
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. (Matt. 5 :9)
